We are a dynamic, cosmopolitan Anglican congregation in the heart of Klang, Selangor — a community shaped by over a century of worship, service, and mission.
From our earliest gatherings at the Raja Mahadi Fort in 1879, to our consecration in 1906, to the vibrant multi-racial congregation of today, St. Barnabas Church has remained a constant beacon of Christ’s love in this community.
We welcome all — across race, generation, and background — into a family defined by the grace of God and the call to serve one another and the world.
From colonial chaplaincy to a thriving parish — the story of St. Barnabas is a story of God’s faithfulness across generations.
Although history records that the first Anglican services in Klang began as early as 1879, the Parish of Selangor was officially inaugurated in 1892 with Rev. F. W. Haines as its first Chaplain.
Services were originally held at the Raja Mahadi Fort and then at the Klang Club — both walking distances from the present church.
The Church of St. Barnabas the Apostle was consecrated on 19th February 1906 by the Rt. Rev. George Frederick, Bishop of Singapore, Labuan and Sarawak.
It was originally a simple, black, wooden structure in the centre of Klang town. However, it was more than just a place for worship — during the Second World War (1939–1945), St. Barnabas served as a sanctuary of refuge for the local British community.
In the 1960s, during the ministry of Rev. Kenneth J. Perry, St. Barnabas became a Parish and was responsible for missionary work around Klang and Kuala Selangor.
In 1965 the first local Asian priest, Rev. A.C. Caldwell, was appointed as Priest-in-charge. The congregation outgrew the old building, and a new concrete building was consecrated by the Rt. Rev. Tan Sri J.G. Savarimuthu on 22 September 1973.
Five pillars that shape how we worship, serve, and grow together as one body in Christ.
We reach beyond our congregation, inviting people of all races and generations into communion and sharing the Good News with every neighbour.
We nurture believers to grow intentionally in their love of God and others through personal faith, spiritual formation and Biblical understanding.
